January arrives and again is that magical time of the year, where moms, whales and humpback whale escorts can be spotted on the shores of the Dominican Republic. Specifically in the north coast, in Banco de la Plata and Banco Navidad, where they mate or give birth to their young in the warm waters of the Atlantic, and under the protection of Dominican and international foundations, associations and authorities.
The period of humpback whales observation begins on January 15 and ends on April 15. Since October 1986, the Dominican Republic has the Humpback Whale Sanctuary of Banco de la Plata, it is one of the first such sanctuaries established in the world. A spectacular staging of this marine mammal, which you can not miss.
This year 2020, Tim Philippus, a 23-year-old German man, has been chosen “Whale Whisperer 2020”. He is the winner of the contest organized each year by the Office of Dominican Tourism Promotion, together with his collaborators Whale Samaná, CEBSE and Meiers Weltreisen in Germany. 115 candidates, 86 women and 29 men, from Germany, Austria and Switzerland have participated in the latest edition, of which Tim won.
Tim, will collaborate with the Samaná Bay and Environment Conservation and Ecodevelopment Center (Cebse) for 4 weeks, as part of a digital audiovisual campaign that already has six awards: “German Online Communication Award 2018” with gold and bronze in the “Environment and Sustainability” and “Tourism” categories, respectively, as well as in 2015, gold in the “Fox Awards” and silver in the “Best of Corporate Publishing Award”.
In 2014 he received gold in the “Best of Corporate Publishing Award” and silver in the “Fox Awards”.
